Essays

Notebook essays from a younger me.

Between 2007 and 2008, a small magazine called YT in the UAE published most of these. I was 16 or 17, writing from a hostel in Karachi. The voice is rough. The convictions aren't. 10 of the 15 were written by a teenager who hadn't yet built or lost anything. And yet most of what I still believe was already on the page.

~ 15 essays, in the order I wrote them ~

A Balanced World

As printed in YT magazine. Tap any page to enlarge.

All men and women in this world are equal; this world is from the very beginning balanced, balanced in a sense, that if anyone has some great ability, he must have weakness too. It's not the boy and girl game here; there are some men who are masters in the fields of women and vice versa! It's the natural ability of the person that how much he or she can achieve. As written in the article Girls Vs Boys dated July 2nd, I was much disappointed to see that these issues in this era do exist. It's not Girls Vs Boys, but rather for me it was Humanity Vs Humanity. Comparing ourselves from others in worldly matters does not ease me, as this increases jealousy and hatred for that person and nothing else and in these circumstances one gets much entranced that he tends to forget his moral values too.

As the writer pointed out the word "Useless" for girls being used, do tell me that in this era, who uses the word "Useless" for girls, for I had heard none using this word. This maybe used long hundred years back, but today we live in an age where every human being has the same status in society. Be it a girl or a boy, all are tied with certain limits which are quite different for both and its due to these differences that many believe that girls in no terms are equal to boys. And then the blessed writer pointed out that boys think they are coolest, well thank you for such respect, but I believe every living creature in this world somewhere does fall in the thought that he is looking cool, be it a beggar who smiles when one lends him new suit and he smiles confirming that it fits him well. Being calm and cool is not in any way harmful, but is the beginning of confidence in the person. But as I said, every deed of ours has its limits and some may cross the limit of coolness and fall into the net of pride.

But then I was much astonished, when the writer confirmed that girls are too, concerned about the looks of boys and their dress style and behavior. I thought only boys were placed in such criteria, I thank the writer for revealing the unknown truth which again proves as I earlier said that every human being is equal

Freedom is something that every mortal needs, to experience the right and wrong, to know what is sin and virtue and also to be well aware of worldly tricks, besides this, to be a better human being. If one remains completely locked up behind the four walls he would be blessed with great behavior, but then, this world for him wouldn't be the right place to live on as he might have never experienced what disloyalty, unfaithfulness and betrayal is. He might be an easy prey for the cruel people always ready to trap innocent ones. And for this reason boys as well as girls do need to experience the outer world too, but then again there are boundaries which I believe are a bit extended for boys in comparison with girls ( I used the word "a bit" do not misunderstand it)

And yes, seriously speaking I haven't seen any female pilots flying aero planes. It may be possible that few might have reached the post, but saying that whole male are being replaced is not logical to my mind. And yes, proving the thought that since girls are acquiring the jobs meant for boys and that it proves that boys are perishing is quite ineffective to me. One does what he has his interests in. In that manner I too could say that the word "Chef" belongs to male cooks and today in almost every 5 star hotel, male cooks are dominant, so why is it that girls in their own line are not being selected? So quarreling on the basis of career is not satisfying because jobs are meant for humans, be it man or woman. And yes, we all have choices. And proving one have more choice than others on the basis of clothes is quite funny to me. Now how could one think of clothes and mentioning it as a main choice! In that sense I could use the SALMAN KHAN style too! There you go, another choice created and I guess now the level of choices must be balanced! And like the writer said that women are balancing their families and challenging careers too, I have my theory that the eldest of the family, be it a boy or a girl, does always have the capability to run there career and family in a successful manner. And in the last the writer said that when a boy's family looks out for the girl for marriage ceremony they tend to look for the girl who is beautiful, qualified and all. But are these not applicable for the girl's family too? Is it not that they too demand such same boys?

In the end, I would like to say that I have not written this letter in order to blaze the fire more, but in order to remove the misconceptions and make others believe that stop criticizing boys or girls, but be thankful that you all are humans and that also normal. We, be it boys or girls, present thousands of our problems regarding things that we cannot change, but for once I believe that no one would have ever thought of the problems faced by transgenders. Have one ever heard their voices being raised up, and we at the same time, much blessed and fortunate trying to curse others or sometimes ourselves for what we are. Thank God for what you are rather than asking the things that were never meant to be yours and try to live happily in this life, and remember all are equal, in the eyes of law as well as in the eyes of –God Peace!!

A Threat to All Religions or precisely

A Threat to All Religions or precisely –Humanity! If you wrong us, shall we not revenge! If it had not been your beloved innocent mother whose sketches were being made in order to abuse her or just to make fun, would you not turn into a savage beast then, rebelling? Then why would the world not expect the same from Muslims all around the world who love their Prophet a thousand times more than their own mothers? It's not just Islam here in focus, today you have Prophet Muhammed (S.A.W), next could be, God Forbid Christ, or any of the Gods from temples. Would then you stay in silence as they continue playing with the religion of others, solely in the name of so called "Freedom"? It's like a blow to entire religions, religions that taught to respect others, value humanity. What I want you to do is, realize that here Islam is not only targeted. I want you to aware the ones near you that someone wishes to diminish the values we give to other religions; someone wishes to show you the path beyond limits of humanity, to crumble your moral values. Would you then too, keeping signing petitions, join fan pages that say STOP this and that? Do you seriously think it could be of any importance? Share this if needed, but trust me, this certainly is not going good. I wonder in the creation of UN for the sake "Peace" as well!

Appreciation

A person for his achievements, for his support, for his love should always be appreciated before he meets his grave. Humans are always the victim of pride and attitude. Ego would be a perfect word used. And I, personally have experienced that as a child grows from infant to an adult, the less he shows and appreciates his parents. Although respect should not be intermixed with gratitude, some believe that both are same. Though both, in this world are nearly extinct. For I have myself experienced and felt that it really is much hard to thank our parents and tell them that we love them a lot. And I feel the more we grow older the more difficult task it becomes. But at least once in our life time, one should thank his parents and tell them what they truly mean to you. A very hard job it sounds, for I myself have not attained this moment but again, I at least do know that what I am weak at. But the word respect should also be known well. I fear these days, many parts of Asia are in great danger, or I would say the whole of Asia has fallen into the evil hands of impoliteness. One walk down the street, gives a quick glimpse of all. One advice that my teacher's father told him and he, to us told will always be remembered by me "Two things greatly affect the character of an individual, the way he dresses himself and what he eats" And I believe that it really is true, the immoral dresses worn these days are just the beginning of an era much more horrible and awful. What these humans are turning into, I cannot imagine. At least the animals know what somehow is right for them, even though they are not blessed with sacred Books. And we humans, beholding such great scriptures never understand or follow them. Lost within our fantasies and consoling to our own souls with lame excuses does not completely mean that we may save ourselves from the upcoming wrath. But the curse has just begun, the deeds we had done have already started affecting our youth. The abusive words used have become so common that many have and want to master this evil literature. Why is it found that a person in sudden horror utters some words worth un-mentioning? Why it is not that he at that instance calls the name of Holy God for help? I believe that these all things somewhere once in the life time of the person crumbles him down showing no mercy. All these evils are invading gradually into Asia, and I wish that all this evil arrives as fast it could for I believe that when a country affected with evil reaches to its utmost limits, then only a revolution comes in formation. West is progressively changing into a better society as once there the situation was terrible and beyond mentioning. But as it reached to its utmost limit, the society itself realized and the process of reformation began. I hope that all goes well in Asia for there is a great danger for the upcoming generation. What they would be? It can't be imagined, but the current situation is not much pleasing. In the end I would greatly thank the YT Den for all there blessings bestowed upon us in the form of their hard work, Roopa Kurian for so satisfactorily editing our posts and making it look of a professional writers work. And yes, the corrections made too, are amazingly learnt much quicker than never before. Who can outlook the two greatest artist of the YT magazine, Vincent Raja, the master of creative drawings and Emad Eldin, the creator of 3-D artworks? With these two, the magazine seems to talk directly to our souls. I would like to thank all, Marisa for so effectively helping the social problems of young youth and I myself have learnt a lot by reading every solution of problems and have become somehow capable of helping some of my friends too, Malini for solving beauty problems of teens, specially advising some of home made remedies, but for all those curious readers, I haven't yet tried anyone for we males are by birth made -handsome, though have advised those remedies to many of my family members. And who can forget Rachana Sippy, the one who helps in deciding our better, safe future career and helps in finding a better solution to our most feared problems. Ah! Shijo too for all his weird and exciting topics, though now a new member Miss. Anu is unleashing her questions unto us. And now at the very end, I would thank all those mortals who helped and are helping in making this magazine a wonderful world to live in, Raziqueh Hussain, M Amiriodin, M Thanweeruddin, P V R Nair, Rajiv Singh, Prue Mason, Mohammad Farooqui (The one I fear the most as he could know me better) Poonam Chawla, Sam Joy (The person who really helped me out), Prathiba Umashankar, increasing our vocabulary in unique and different method probably as if saying a whole story for just one word and this really does in script those words upon our hearts, and even to all the contributors of this magazine, without them this magazine would be incomplete and all those who I fear have forgotten to mention, Salutes to you all!. And now comes the time of appreciating my parents, to you all I have done, but to them…

Caged

I often view many charming and beautiful birds being locked up in some cage. Moreover, to hurt that poor bird more, what usually people do is keep his dungeon beneath the open sky making his every second more sorrowful and painful. That poor creature keeps looking up the sky and the free birds flying and chirping happily, at that instance, this bird prays to God to have some mercy, and that very sound the bird makes, becomes of our delight. But still, the bird tries to learn different tunes, having a hope, that one day that cruel person will understand what this bird speaks and shall free him. I know most of you wouldn't agree with me because of your utmost love to your parrot or any bird and can't bear the pain of losing it. But the fact is, one should sacrifice his own wishes and desires in order to fulfill others happiness, for that is the real greatness in him. I remember that once I had ten Gould's Finches and one great parrot which I had since childhood. But we kept their cage in our store room, so they would never know what freedom was like or they wouldn't get jealous of the free birds flying. But as I grew, I kept only the parrot out of the cage, and it usually sat above the cage glancing here and there. One great thing that I loved about this parrot was that it never bit anyone, and that particular thing made this parrot an extra-ordinary creature to me. But as time passed, it made great mess by flying through out our home and crashing to any obstacle that came in its way. And as he did so, I went straight to each and every window or door of the house and confirmed that it was closed. Then cautiously I would take some towel and wrap it from its back and pick it up leading back on his cage, rather than in. And as my memory reminds me, this deed of parrot was done for about three to four days in a week. Later it grew so worse that my mother decided that it was time to free our parrot. At this stage I nearly lost myself, it was like; she was snatching my childhood friend. But the situation grew worse when the parrot managed to memorize the tune of our door bell. Often at midnight my father used to wake up due to the sound which really alerted all of us. Now my father also declared that he should be freed. And next morning he woke me up saying that he was going to release the parrot with all the finches. Now I had very less time left to spend with my parrot, I really can't remember what I spoke to that parrot, but one thing was sure, that I really let a silent tear flow while patting him. After some really tough time, my father came and firmly picked up the cage and took it outside to our lawn. And there he opened the cage. Instantly seven finches flew away, and after some seconds the rest three too flew away. But it was strange that my parrot didn't fly. But as my father hushed the parrot, it darted straight through our open door and once again into our home. Now that act of it, cheered me so much that I couldn't express here. But now my father wrapped the parrot and took it to the nearest tree and left it there, all alone. But the parrot still didn't fly rather it stayed there the whole day. When I woke up the next morning, I found that the parrot had left. That night I couldn't sleep, I wept silently so no one could hear me for I lost my oldest friend that I ever had. But after two days a strange thing happened, that parrot along with two finches were found to be sitting on the cage, still kept on the lawn. I got so much delighted that I kept them inside the cage and brought it back to the place where we earlier kept them. And as my father returned from office he noticed this and said me that I could keep them. At this point my happiness seemed to touch the seven skies. And as time passed, it changed everything. I had to return to my country, leaving my other country –Qatar. And, that instance, I had to leave my parrot, my school friends and all other people related to me. And this time, no magic occurred as I woke up the next morning in Pakistan, I couldn't find my parrot and all my friends. But still being here, a hope fires in my heart that adorns and cheers my way, that one day I will get all that I have lost. The reasons for writing such long incident are, never torture or give pain to those creatures who can't speak. And if you love that beautiful creature being caged, let it free and see that does it come back. As I had been told from childhood that parrots once freed, never come back. Now I feel that is wrong. Its your love to that creature that counts the most. In certain extreme situations, where you have to know how much your friend loves you, you have to let go off him and see whether he comes back to you or not. If he comes back, you are blessed, but if he doesn't, he never was meant to be yours. Those who are blessed should treasure every moment of life, for treasures are often lost as time can change everything. Time has two sides, at one instance it can be your greatest friend, but on the other your greatest foe.

Correct Your Mistakes

As printed in YT magazine. Tap any page to enlarge.

"People in the society criticize us on clothes we wear, the way we talk, laugh …Why don't they just mind their own business?" This was the thought expressed by a young reader on April 9th YT edition. As far as I am concerned, this thought is misunderstood. As long as 'People" criticize someone it should not be neglected but a thought should be invoked for the reason of it, rather than degrading the people one should look upon himself and correct the thing which sounds abnormal to the society. Do understand that when one talks about people, then an image of elder people is created who really are much experienced with the games of life. And yes, if the whole above sentence was replaced with "Friends" instead of "People" I would have given a second thought. If, that my friend is from the list of friends who think for my well being then I would probably accept his comment and would try to amend myself. And if not, then I guess who really wish to care! And one more thing that struck me hard was when the writer confirmed that elders do have the right to guide youngsters, and I too agree with this statement, but further when the writer said that guidance should not be given in such a way that it affects other peoples feeling it made me all numb. It really is obvious that when guidance path is accepted from the depth of hearts feelings do change too. How a wrong doer could not be guided by criticizing and shaking his feelings, for the benefit of him, this should be done. In the same way parents do and must guide their children to the right path no matter how much the child rebels. But when the child grows a bit sensible he too realizes that how lucky he had been in having parents who really cared for him and made him a perfect man. And this thanking prayer would only rise from him when he could make and point out the differences between him and the less bothered humanity. And believe me, when a child grows to a man from a strict environment, he too prays for his parents and appreciates their way of bring and polishing him up. And yes, I too have seen but infact had been my fellow student, who always cursed his parents for not being strict with him and further more he also added that he would atleast be strict with his younger brother a bit in order to save him from what he himself had become. Let this be a message to all those who think life is fun and I pay me great blame to the western culture which really had won their trust. Children not listening to their parent's opinion have always been the very way of them. But when I saw the line saying that parents do not care about their children's opinion, a western image of a child popped up before me complaining about his parents in the police station! Is this what we call our advancement, the great evolution! And if these ideas are arising in our young generation then I am afraid to say that an evolution is surely arising but towards ruination of our cultures and moral values. And as again the writer said that an image has been created which leads to narrow minded people then I again say that the big large screen box one worships has caused this. Today's younger ones are much clever, they point and quickly adapt the slightest change they see on television and think day and night about it , be it good or bad, it came on television and was followed by their favorite characters so they are into it, worshipping blindly for much eager they are. In the end I hope and shall continue hoping that those western ideas don't rise in your mind, they have ruined their society and now they are upon the phase of mending their past mistakes, yet we are desiring to follow the same path, the same mistakes they had done to lead us to nemesis! Peace!

Dear Rachana

Dear Rachana, I am one great confused Teenage who don't know what to do and am 16 years old. I have a lot of interest in Computer Graphics that's why I have decided to take a profession related to it. Like developing Graphics in 3D games or creating animated 3D movies like NEMO. Is there any demand in Pakistan for this profession or is this profession safe for me. I even heard some elders saying that this profession has less demand in Pakistan. I am really confused and can't decide the right profession for me. Can you suggest the correct name of this Profession as well as say me some institutions in Pakistan related in this field. Demerits Social Media

Humans - advanced yet lost.

Where do I start this from? We have embraced technology too much, to an extent where the limits of humanity have all been crossed. Emotions, feelings and living in the moment have been compromised with the efforts to document it all. A beautiful sunshine, a child's smile, all such moments are set to fire by our desire to capture these moments in the form of pictures, tweets and posts, for the audience of the other delusional social world. A world which comes before our feelings, where "likes", "tweets", "followers" and "comments" matter the most.

Those known to be perfectly connected and socially active, are found guilty of not interacting with people they are with. Families, real friends, and not to forget –neighbors. Worst, most even don't recall who their neighbors are.

The desire of getting equipped with latest smartphones, devices, and techy gadgets is the new drug. Once you have it all, which you'll never, will make you realize the time these monsters have consumed, trapping you in their own world. Your conscience experiences it, you'll realize it someday too. To be always connected, a mental disorder I can say.

I'm not broken or sad. I'm worried and terrified for the next generation. A generation that seeks pleasure and yearns to gain sympathies from a different social world. A world where each and every word matters to them, turning them short tempered, immoral, and with no respect. They learn and fetch information only what interests them, and personal interests can't be always right. They are turning self-centered and selfish with time, capturing and filtering hundreds of their own pictures. The modern world calls it "selfie" pictures. I'd love to rename it to "selfish" pictures. You'll realize that one day. Days are not too far, when people would only capture themselves. It has already begun.

A fathers complain, a mother's happiness; the realization of these feelings have no time in our life anymore. A life that is solely dedicated in knowing others in a different social world, that in the end we have forgotten ours. I'm guilty of standing amongst those and I truly realize that. I hope someday we all do and that is when our families and those close, find a new soul in us. A soul that listens to them when they speak, and not just nods when they speak their heart. A soul so beautiful that invests their time with others, in return of having true happiness as they make progress. That is, what it is, to be human beings.

Freedom

Can we call ourselves to be free? Have we the right to do anything or say anything? After getting liberation are we free or still acting like slaves? No, we can't call this our freedom. Countries that have freedom and liberty progress with lightening speed. But we, ourselves have destroyed our nation. The name "Pakistan" holds such divine and pure meanings that we have failed to understand and mislead our path. Freedom for us is nothing but to get the keys of motor bikes and roar them throughout the city crumbling peace and uttering total chaos. And for getting such desires fulfilled we even fight our parents, we have literally ruined our future by not following the commands of our parents. And due to our deeds our country is suffering and falling day by day. Every second, every minute, the crime rate increases and we are yet to be blamed. The problem that each of us hold is that we keep blaming others for our problems. Are we not the one who had voted them? Did we not made them proud of themselves? But the fact is that we all are lost in the fantasies of the world. We keep dreaming of having everything, holding nothing. And for our country, what we do is just pray. Whenever anyone questions and talks about the current critical condition of our country, we often reply "May Allah help this country". Well, Allah will surely help by His wisdom but only if we take a step further and set things right ourselves. We are the youth, tomorrow will surely come, and there we shall be taking their places which they hold with such pride. But in the course of time we should pray that we don't forget our right path and go astray. It is right to hate the sin, but not the sinner. We should always try our best to help each other in their miseries and lead them the right path. And should stop blaming about what our ancestors had done, rather we should prepare ourselves for a better tomorrow. The past was past, the future is our present. Tackle the situations, no matter what you are, where you are, help the ones who are left behind in this crowd. Child labor is another problem through which our country is going through, and for its eradication we have to encourage the parents as well as the child for going to studies rather than working here and there by at least providing them proper books and uniforms. And always remember your nation needs you, it is in trouble and we have to set things right. Our country is not cursed by terror attacks and other evils, in fact we are blessed, facing all these hardships and adversities have made us strong and have developed harmony and brotherhood among us. Our nation holds great talents and knowledge hidden, and this is what terrifies our enemies. Once we get united, protect each other, and then only, we can get complete peaceful freedom. We should apologize before our Creator, for He had blessed our nation with great talents and resources, but we misused them and went astray. May each of us breathe in the fresh air of peaceful and clam life, where wisdom and peace would prevail. And our own nation would become a living legend for others, where law and order would be respected with complete justice. And there would always be a hope drenched in our hearts that one day our dream would come true Hope, like the gleaming taper's light, Adorns and cheers our way; And still, as darker grows the night, It emits a lighter ray.

Mother's Wish

"The warmth of my arms, once became the joy for my new born son for I was his proud mother. How he moved open his small sparkling eyes with innocence. The day he started strolling, what spirit of joy went threw me. His first word spoken, Maa, made him my only purpose for living. How happy I was in seeing my child grow. Soon he took his first step towards life and entered school and their, I stood waving him good bye for I was his proud mother who had never left him alone anywhere. And what pain it was, in passing those painful hours but waited patiently for him to arrive for it was he's first day in school and yet again I was his proud mother. As he came towards me running full of joy, I hugged him and carried him home for he was my joyful son. How many more young friends he made, and made them meet me with such pleasure and excitement that never seemed to cease, for once there I was, dazzled that he, my son, had become famous and I was the one he loved much. Time continued its pace and eventually, my son had matured enough, and had joined the best college in country. What if he quarreled with me, or even spoke harsh words, he still was my son. Soon he had many friends to accompany him and he cherished each moment with them. What if he felt embarrassed seeing me before his friends, for I am his uneducated mother, but still he is my son and I am proud. A mother I am, filled of high hopes for my son, and soon all these were fulfilled. He had developed into a man, a well educated man and he was my son, the one who I had brought up. Sitting alone here I am, waiting for my son to arrive for he had gone abroad pretending that he had left for further studies, but I, his mother and know all. Son, if you can listen me somewhere, I am here left alone for past 10 years. And no more I'm strong as I was, your mother has grown old and has become weak, and without you; had become more weaker than weak. All these days I have been waiting for you to arrive, please hurry, for I am still, a proud mother waiting for his son to arrive and fighting –death. Let not death come before you son, or else your mother filled once of much pride would die a very painful silent death." I do not wish to explain what I have written. For I believe we all are quite aware of the fact that what happens and how we treat our beloved mother these days. I do not hope that there, among you is a proud face expressing that he never spoke back to his mother but I surely wish to see the person who tries to feel the pain he inflicts on his family specially the never complaining –mother. She knows all, but pretends that she never was hurt, but deep inside she silently weeps and those voices fades in her smile. Smile that hopes again and yet again, that some day his son will grow up and become a better man. And we, knowing all the truth hide from our own selves never trying to face the possibilities and trying to neglect the truth that she is being hurtled and the main cause are –we. Our souls know this, but we, afraid and fearing such reality are even scared from its slightest shadow and yet –change the topic for we are the new youth!

Peace Shall Come

Peace shall come my friends, don't get discouraged. There would certainly come a day when we could breathe in fresh air, no more worries for money, no more fears of being dead. No matter how hard the enemy tries to bother our feelings, we would fight them all. Not with weapons, but merely with calming ourselves. We would not become the victim of anger and havoc, but would hold ourselves still and silently await the end of evils. What if our leader was shot? What if those culprits weren't caught? We still wouldn't ruin ourselves by the chaos the enemy created. Peace shall find its way, it always does. Certainly there would come a day when no mortal would fight for the unspeakable land, or would discriminate himself from others. There would come a day, when no nations would exist, only one planet known as Earth and us merely its dwellers. And there would exist such an environment where the cursed green goblin would never be invoked into the hearts of men. Yes my friends, jealousy shall never find its way to us. But yes, there shall exist one kind of jealousy in them, jealousy for doing virtues then the others. There, if one helps the poor by providing them 10 kg of wheat, there other men would stand up and provide 20 kg of wheat, such shall be the kind of jealousy they would hold. Don't get disheartened by the fact that peace wouldn't come, but hold a firm belief in it, such a belief that would shaken the angels from Heaven. Only then peace could be attained. An example of such firm believes I would like to share with you being it is very true in history. There lived a lady, though I am not sure of her name. Not very rich but had a firm believe on the blessings of the Ruler, which shall never betray her no matter what happens. One day, she invited few guests to her little cottage for dinner and had just prepared every few things she had. Just then a beggar pleaded her for food. At first she feared that she had only two Chapattis at present and what she would present before her guest, but later on hearing the awful story of the beggar she readily gave all what she had. Then came the time for his guest to come, she talked to her guest hesitantly fearing what she would present before her guest. Times passed out, but then suddenly some one knocked at her door. As she went and interrogated, she found a servant of King had arrived at her door gifting 19 Chapattis. But these she didn't accept as she doubted how would she an ordinary woman, come in the concern of King and sent him back for confirmation. Then after some moments the servant was found again at her door coming hurriedly and approving that these 19 chapattis belonged to her. But now again she couldn't believe and ultimately sent him back for confirmation. Then again he came confirming and still she couldn't believe and yet again she sent him back. After many trips of that servant he became frustrated and yelled in anger, "How could these 19 chapattis not belong to YOU?" at this she revealed that God have promised that whatever shall be spent in His way, one would be awarded double of it, and as since she spent 2 chapattis she should be getting 20 chapattis, not 19! At hearing this, the servant fell upon his knees, cried for forgiveness and said that while on the way he felt hungry and ate one chapatti assuming he wouldn't be caught! Hearing this the lady readily accepted the gift and forgave him Such firm must the faith of us in every aspect of life. And I believe God does not only double the rewards, but returns them by multiplying it with ten. No matter how much money you have, help the poor, give to young ones or gift them to your parents and then you might feel the blessings upon you showered, and would be in such numbers that you might not count them, perhaps you wouldn't be able to hold them together. At least, for one time look down upon the fellow child begging for alms and give him a smile while helping him, or for once, feel the happiness and pleasure in providing one-time food for the poor and see how your deed brings a change in you, an eternal change. If such deeds are done, peace shall be and must be born. No matter what it takes one should never abandon from the light of hope. Hope I believe is like a light that adorns and cheers our way, and as darker grows the night, it still emits a lighter ray, but it surely does. So long, peace shall come, and for it, I shall continue to hope though I have not the gift of prophecy, but shall continue to hope till it remains beneficial.

What really have happened to our society? Why we are fearful to send our youngsters to streets being afraid that they would be spoiled? Why that is a ten year old child who is raised my much love yells and shouts back to his parents, believing that he himself is always right? Parents, yes, those are the one who raise their children sacrificing every single thing for them. No matter how hungry they are, how ill they are, but when it comes to the love of their child they disregard their every problem for his well being. It is true believe me, and if you don't, take a visit to your nearest hospital and just sit back and look the many thousands of anxious parents carrying their sons waiting in the long queue of patients, waiting and yet waiting –silently. At that time the child little does understand what really is happening, he is lost in his fantasies neglecting every aspect of life engaged in his very own angel world. The very first spoken word of child, the very first day of school of child are examples of the events which really are the dreams of every parent. But as the child grows in the society, he fails to understand what really is right for him and what is wrong. For him, his friends become every thing to him, his icon, his idol, and even sometimes his god. According to me, friends play a very important role in establishing or ruining the personality of his mate. The first look on anyone's friends determines how the one would be. Finding these great friends is also a tough job for one, and even can take about three to four years discovering them. But as the child grows from infant to a teenager with utmost love from, I suppose –everyone, he tries to visualize his greatness. Very little does he knows or tries to know at what critical stage of life he is in. Future, career all in this age could be made or destroyed. And when his parents, like from the very first, again tries to help him and show the right path, he considers himself to be more experienced and correct leading to the rise of great argument. In this argument he gets so involved that he forgets what he was, what words he spoke and at that time he even forgets whom he was talking too, above all he becomes a wild beast yet captured in human body. Presently this chaos is increasing day by day. I fear that one day would come that when a child get punished by his parents he instead of saying "Sorry" to them would rather complain in the Police Station for being harshly beaten. And like these incidents do really occur many times in the Western countries. I believe that these days' parents and elders are not being respected the way they were to be. Do these children, when grown up forget who their parents were or what dignity they hold? Or is it that they believe, is obligatory on every parent to raise their children properly? My dear young YT readers do remember to give respect to your elders in the same way they brought you up. And do neglect mistakes committed by –anyone, because these are source from which quarrel arise. Remember to never forget your own religious values and cultures for those are the one that are still keeping and protecting you from many social sins. And do keep in mind that Western Culture does look good only on ones television but not when he wrecks himself imitating it. As you may not know how many problems they face in their daily life. And I doubt know right now, I would be regarded as an idiot talking about cultures and religious values. And these very words you would have often listened from your grand parents and those much elder than you. But believe me, if these very cultures weren't present we would all have been completely ruined and lost into the world of dark ages. It doesn't matter to me if any of you after reading this, still disrespects his parents or shouts back to them, for I believe that one day must surely come when your very own offspring's would be giving more pain to you than you gave to your parents. This is a world of pay back, what you give is what you get. Every deed you do with anyone does bounce back to you, if not in this world then surely in Hereafter. But if anyone after reading this, at least looks back at his parents with a little smile and love on his face, and then I believe the purpose of my writing is accomplished. And I surely don't believe that this worthless article would completely change any soul, but I do believe that this very article would at least reawake the long dead voice of right and wrong in you. Trust me; if you gain blessings from your mother, you would surely do great in life of Hereafter. And if you gain blessings from your father, you would surely succeed in this present world. Don't believe me, just try it. These days the judgment of nature is at its crest, one would surely reap what he sowed in this world. So my dear readers please do respect to your elders and most importantly your parents or else I fear the future holds such a society where one child would be arrested on the charge of murdering his parents and where no one would be valued and abusing of one another in shocking and shameful words would be at its peak……..

I honestly prefer spending my weekend, when at home, on my roof, the only peaceful place I find, to write as well as to imagine. Just staring upon the vast sky and feeling the soft breeze, forgetting all the troubles for once and enjoying the flight of free birds flying here and there. Ah! I can't think of these on any other day. And of course as being a part of this era I do use internet and hear music. But that I do everyday, not specially on weekends. And as far as what my parents did when in my age, then I hope they lived much better, they played many different outdoor games in our age, which nearly are extinct in this era. Furthermore they had great interactions on weekends too, like visiting families, relatives, friends etc. And in present one cannot even save time to visit at least their family members. All I can say is that our parents in our age were stronger and active than any of us. And that's why it is only now that we find people anxious to loose weight and caught in other heath regarded issues!

The Darker Sides of Karachi University

How much longer should we wait for appropriate decisions? How many more deaths would be needed to initiate the transportation system for evening students? Could they too use the facilities provided by the University of Karachi? Or are they all provided just for the sake of name? It seems like yesterday a student of Karachi University got crumbled under the truck just before our eyes. I reached the spot 10 minutes after the incident happened and witnessed many police men being gathered around the truck inspecting it. Much fear and tension was found in every student standing their, awaiting for their respected buses! Few students were even sobbing at that moment. The blame could all be put upon Karachi University's Transportation system! It's not about fighting for one life, or just creating a havoc of this situation, but when I put my place before her, and have no choice but to stand at the very bus-stand every single night, I do have the right to rebel then. At the point she died, it could be me too, or anyone from the Karachi University Thousands of applications have been submitted to the head of Evening Department for starting proper transportation system, both by us and by the previous batches, but as it's usually found in Pakistan, everyone keeps blaming others for not providing the approval and piling thousands of ridiculous excuses before us. This is what Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, The Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University had done!

Moreover, the transportation that runs for the evening students for picking them –only comes whenever they wish too. Even if the slightest news of some protest is heard by them - anywhere, our transportation would be the first one to close down, while we would be waiting its arrival at the respected points –restless.

Is this how the transportation system of one of the world's famous University of Karachi should be? I would like to request the authorities to take action as swiftly as possible; the students need points to pick and drop them near their homes, I sometimes feel that running transportation system in the night is more important than in morning! Buses are not easily available at night, and the tension develops more as well. The authorities should know how it feels when a student leaves his class at 8:30 and reaches out of the university gate at around 9 and awaits for his bus, and finally reaches his home at 10 pm! This is just my story. Every time I leave university towards home and pass through the Al-Asif building by 'G-17' bus, just to reach Sakhi Hassan in 1 hour, I find myself in constant fear and tension, thanks to the atmosphere near that area which even worries my mother at home –praying! Even at 3:30 inside the university the transportation system is not sufficient. One would always find students waving hands for lift near the Maskan Gate, to the private vehicles entering University. And went I noted the time, it took me 45 minutes of walk, just to reach my U.b.i.t department on foot.

We, the students of Evening Programme of Karachi University hardly can enjoy any facility given to us. The Main Central Library closes at 8:30, can anyone ever expect a library to close down. And besides that, our classes that run from 3:30 without a break end at 8:30 (Only 10 Minutes gap is given to offer prayers) How can we ever visit the library if we don't bunk our classes in between?

Next we have no sports facility either; the Gymnasium closes at 8:30 too. And mostly all the facilities given to students end around 8:30!! It seems as if every luxury is meant for the morning students –only. And the last main problem we face is the lighting system of University at night, where all seems dark!

Now, when so many problems are being faced by each and every student in evening classes, why doesn't the University take some action? Why can't it initiate the transportation system for picking and dropping as well? Why couldn't they extend the library timings, or on those street lights in university. They could also start classes a bit early so as to give us gaps between periods as well!

I hope my letter reaches the appropriate desks and soon we would hear something helpful. Surely we don't want this letter to be neglected as enough protest had already been done within the university boundaries for the sake of initiating the transportation system for the evening students, but the respected authorities remained as numb as they could. And therefore, the students have decided, that if the transportation is system is not yet provided by the University of Karachi to pick and drop them regularly, the students would not pay the fees of one semester, and with that money, run their own buses, so as to stop more deaths, which seemed quite worthless to some respected authorities for not taking any action and just building one flyover bridge, and closing the case! Peace!

Thoughts

Battles, yes, they are fought everywhere every time some with weapons and some without. And yes, we too fight battles, but not with weapons, with ourselves, with our thoughts. Thoughts have the power to make us laugh or cry, or make ourselves appreciated or neglected, and it truly depends on how the person thinks. One should be able to listen and understand what he truly thinks and what his intentions are. It so happens that when a new person enters in our life, mostly people judge him by his appearance and ultimately our thoughts pop up making weird guesses of his personality. And believe me; most of our own made guesses are wrong! What if the face of the person doesn't meet our requirements or the so called "Standards" It certainly wouldn't mean that he is awful and unpleasant. But on the other hand one should fight these evil thoughts being produced and console himself by hoping that person to be respectable and virtuous. Not only this, but one should even reply to his own evil misguiding voice that may be what he is thinking is wrong. Once you are able to recognize your Evil Thoughts, then only you could reply them correctly and that also from within. These thoughts are really strange creatures, sitting in the living room and recalling those funny incidents of yours does really make you smile for the moment, and if accidentally someone catches you up grinning, I'm sure those creatures would again take birth in that persons mind arising many questions like, why is he smiling? Is he laughing at me? Is he in…? And various other illogical questions burst upon his mind. Why doesn't anyone at this point fight his own thoughts and reply himself, "What if he is laughing, I got my own work to do?" Sometimes these little thoughts ruin the mood of the person leading him highly depressed and at the same time even do wonders for one. Learn to control your thoughts, and if you cannot, then at least learn to reply them. The root of many evils are attached to these thoughts, some are mischievous while some are dangerous for ones health. But some thoughts are beneficial for the mind to, for example if one loses in sports he should calm himself by saying, "So what if I lost, I would try much harder next time" these thoughts are helpful rather than accusing himself, "I'm not good at any thing" Always try to generate optimistic thoughts for yourself and for others. New Year has just begun, but for me, it is just like an ordinary day filled with mysterious hidden surprises awaiting us to discover them. Every day for one should be filled with positive meaningful hopes. And those hopes should be believed with such faith that you must believe that the coming day, my desire would be accomplished. I don't know why I feel like saying this, but when I was a teenage, merely not too young; I had a silent desire which I never to anyone told. I wished from God to grant me some super powers of Spider Man! And after every prayer I wised for this ultimate desire. And believe me I had such firm belief in my hope, that for many days I tried to climb walls, and do many amusing things in order to release that Web of his. But it never came out. And now I still don't know is it right or wrong but still a flame of hope for it still burns in me somewhere and I just can't put it off. I don't say hope for such miracles, but at least hope with such firm belief that you can achieve anything you ever want. For me, ones mornings should be filled with hopes and plans to achieve them, and their nights in recalling all the thoughts that they ever thought throughout the day, or any bad deed that they ever did that might offend or hurt someone. Believe me that if you let two or three of your tears fall amid the night in asking forgiveness from the wrong that you had ever done, the next morning you might find your heart much lightened and fresh that you might had never felt before, such is the magic of asking forgiveness. This is not just a saying I copied, but truly is my experience and if you doubt it, what really is wrong in trying it just for once. Although some of our sins can only be forgiven from our parents and friends (but still one hope is yet alive here too) by just saying, "I'm sorry" to them, but this really is not as easy as it seems and I honestly know it. Over the net or just while writing it seems quite simple to say but being in real life, talking face to face is really a tough experience and does require a lot of confidence which I fear am not equipped with, so therefore I try my best not to hurt the ones I know. Hope that all the YT readers would certainly have a very Happy New Year filled with many blessings and would surely win the battles fought in their minds, and spend each day with high hopes and every night in repentance for the wrongs they had done. For them, this world would be easy to live on. To all the YT team I would wish HAPPY NEW YEAR although I know I'm late in saying this. Keep up the good work and yes, my little brother suggested in starting a magic teaching column in YT which I without quarreling agreed to ask for.

Wisdom VS Knowledge

At present, this world needs more wisdom as it ever did before. With continuous increase of knowledge, the need of wisdom increases too. Today, to me what seems to be lacking is wisdom alone Science advances and shall continue to advance throughout the time. But it is, to me, wisdom more important than knowledge. Suppose for example, we have two men, both hating each other. And if I went, personally to each other and asked the cause of hatred, the reasons of both would certainly match. And when revealed to both what they have said about each other, then this act of mine, would have certainly increased their hatred between them. But if I, after knowing the reasons, would have cleared their misunderstandings and turned their hatred into friendship, then this act of mine is what I called 'Wisdom'. Today, the youth is found to be in the most critical stage of life. It seems they have grown much older than their respective ages. And by saying this, I mean that they have acquired certain knowledge much before than they should! Outdoor games and family interactions are those few things that are meant for youth. But rather, our youth is found driving bikes and some have even crossed this line and are learning to drive cars too. While
